Making of the Felicity Charm

It’s here!

I’ve literally been sitting on this piece for what now, a full year? Even after perfecting the little details – how thick would it be? How many notches do I add? How big should I make it? Even after wearing my own personal Felicity charm for a year without taking it off. Even after all of this, I still waited to release it.

There wasn’t really a dramatic reason why it took a year to come to this point. If I’m honest, I was just scared. I haven’t done a drop in such a long time, my website was still under construction, and my 9-5 has played a larger role in my life than ever before. I felt rusty and irrelevant - what real reason did I need to release a piece let alone a whole new drop?

The story

I’ve been practicing how to engrave for only a few months when I knew I wanted to engrave on a postage stamp. For me, postage stamps reminded me of love letters, pen pals, birthday invitations… It was the perfect design for a sentimental engraving.

Although the postage stamp design is so universal and at its core, simple - I spent such a long time perfecting the details. I started with sketches, moved onto wax-carving, then made the final revisions on CAD.

After a few months of prototypes, I sent it over to be cast in 14k gold. I knew I wanted the first finalized Felicity charm to be mine to keep. I fabricated and soldered a rectangular bail, and then it was time to engrave.

R for Reginald

At this point it’s obvious - I am obsessed with my dog. We found him on a rehoming corgis Facebook group, so I’d like to think it was a beautiful combo of luck and fate that our paths crossed. He was just six months old and it didn’t take long for us to get attached. He is, in every definition of the word, my soul dog.

So I engraved a ribbon lettered R and his birth year on my personal Felicity charm. I love when people ask about it because I get to talk about him. I love being able to rub the charm between my fingers, feeling the engraved marks, and just be reminded of this special pup. It is my most treasured piece of jewelry besides my engagement ring.

I hope you love this charm as much as I do. <3
